Cosmetic Dentistry

If the condition of your teeth is negatively impacting your self esteem, East Village Dental can help. Cosmetic dentistry helps to improve imperfections in your mouth, teeth, and gums that affect the look of your smile.

Among the most popular procedures we use to help enhance the appearance of your smile are:

  • Cosmetic bonding to repair small chips or cracks
  • Tooth contouring and reshaping for a better appearance
  • In office or take home tooth whitening
  • Ceramic porcelain crowns and bridges
  • Porcelain veneers for larger chips and cracks or teeth needing recontouring

At East Village Dental, we specialize in the following cosmetic oral health procedures:

Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is an ultra-thin, durable, tooth shaped porcelain shell that covers the front side of a tooth. Veneers can improve the appearance of teeth that are permanently stained, poorly shaped, chipped, worn, or poorly spaced. They are custom made in a dental laboratory then bonded onto the front of teeth to create a durable, beautiful, and attractive smile.

Your dentist may recommend veneers for the following reasons:

  • Create a beautiful, white smile
  • Fix crooked teeth
    Reshape teeth
  • Correct uneven or unwanted spaces
  • Repair chipped or worn teeth
Teeth Whitening

Over time, teeth often become discoloured and stained by food, beverages, and tobacco. Professional tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment that can dramatically enhance the beauty of your smile. There are two types of professional whitening, in-office and home treatment. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will dramatically whiten your teeth. Both professional options are stronger and more effective than over-the-counter products. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement options for any old fillings, crowns, etc.

At East Village Dental, we can also assist you with whitening teeth that have been bonded, ensuring your cosmetically treated teeth look cleaner, whiter, and brighter at the end of the treatment process.

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are designed to replicate the look of your natural teeth. Also known as a dental cap, the porcelain crown covers the damaged section of your tooth, preventing further damage from occurring and improving the appearance of the tooth in the process. The primary role of a porcelain crown is total tooth restoration following a break, chip, or instance of severe decay. Porcelain crowns are sometimes recommended as a solution for teeth that have become discoloured.

Having porcelain crowns fitted to your teeth requires a minimum of two visits to East Village Dental. Porcelain crowns have a natural feel and look to them. They are also well renowned for their durability, making them an excellent choice for those in need of a permanent cosmetic dental solution.

Onlays

Onlays can be applied over the biting area of a tooth and are often composed of porcelain, composite, resin, or gold. Onlays are commonly used to repair teeth that have begun to decay or have undergone an injury. Onlays differ from inlays in that they only cover the surface of the tooth as opposed to filling in any internal gaps.

Dental onlays are the ideal solution for people that need a more advanced treatment than a filling but less than a crown.

  • Your dental professional may recommend a dental onlay if:
  • Your tooth cusp is too damaged for just an inlay or a fillingYour tooth’s structure has been compromised and may shatter or crack if filled
  • Your tooth would require natural tooth removal for a crown to be fitted on it
Gum Contouring

If you are suffering from excessive gum tissue, gum contouring can help. This cosmetic surgery reshapes the gums to help restore a more natural appearance to your teeth. Most often, gum contouring is recommended when the gums have begun to recede, revealing too much of your teeth. This procedure is also an excellent option for patients whose gumline is uneven. Since receding gums are normally caused by gum disease, gum contouring does offer medical benefits as well by possibly helping you to save teeth you might otherwise lose over time. In some cases, receding gums can be the result of genetics or the use of certain prescription drugs.
